Style Tips: Tailgate Attire

Labor Day means a well-needed three-day weekend, fall kick-offs and the beginning to one of the best times of the year: football season. In only a few weeks, weekends in August through November will erupt with excitement as friends and families wake up early, fill their cars and join up to celebrate one of America’s favorite pastimes. No matter how much you love the game, so many us would argue the true reason for the day is tailgating. Tailgating is the time to connect with old friends and spend time with those who share the same passion for football and camaraderie. And with that kind of excitement, it truly is a time to dress nicely – but within standing-on-your-feet-all-day limits. Below will take you though tips to dress to impress, while staying comfortable all day.

Football means tailgating – and why not do it in style? Check out these tips and don your Saturday best for every game. And remember: no matter what you wear, keep comfort and team colors in mind!

School Colors:

COMFORT_FIT_OPAL_BERMUDA_Lee-SP15_RW2_3029_R No matter the outfit you chose, make sure your choices include your school’s colors! No need to go overboard on every piece, but a black top over a pair of jeans for a Mizzou game (go Tigers!) will look light-years better than a seemingly random hot pink tank, or even worse, your opponent’s colors.

Jeans:

Jeans for Tailgating Jeans are a football-watching staple. No matter the style: straight leg jeans, skinny jeans or shorts, denim will help to pull off a chic look, while keeping you comfortable all day. The Lee’s Curvy Fit Cadence Bootcut Jeans for women are both the perfect blend of modern style and innovative comfort – just what you need for a full day at the game!

Dresses:

Tailgating DressDresses are comfortable, cool and cute for game days, especially during the beginning of the season. Track down one in a fabric with your school colors and take advantage of bringing out your favorite summer dresses before fall closes in on us. This dress from Wild Souls Blog is the perfect dress for a day in the sun at a Georgia Southern Game!

Once you have your outfit together, make sure you grab one of the most important items: a jacket. No matter how warm it is tailgating at 2:00 in the afternoon, the sun will go down for that evening game, and all of a sudden your summer-cool outfit may not feel like such a great idea.

Shoes:

Tailgating ShoesGirls: no matter how cute those new wedges or heels are – keep them safe at home! Football games and tailgating events are casual – and usually mean long walks to and from the football stadium through uneven campus asphalt and grass, not to mention standing all afternoon in the parking lot just to stand all night at the game! So take the opportunity to bust out your favorite flip-flops or flat boots to still look trendy and fun on the big day. Lee-SP15_RW2_8064-R

Guys aren’t immune from this rule! Stick to a pair of tennis shoes or high quality flip-flops to stay comfortable all day while still looking great.

Extra Credit:

Of course, extra credit for any super fans who wear their favorite team jersey, themed jewelry or body paint. Just try to stick to one over-the-top item. What is your favorite game-time wardrobe piece?
