How to Relieve Stress Fast

Stressed? Here are 3 Fixes That Take Less Than 3 Minutes


Things in life stress us out every day. And it’s easy to let stress take over you, to consume your thoughts, feelings and emotions. When we’re under stress, we can’t eat right, sleep right or think right. Though it’s normal, it can be a huge detriment to our success in life.

But you can take control of your stress, and fix it. When you take control, it can’t touch you.

Breathe

Close your eyes. Take a deep breath. I mean deep — Inhale for at least 6 seconds. Now exhale slowly, for another 6 seconds or so. Repeat. Feeling better yet?

If not right away, just continue to breathe. This tactic is remarkably effective, forcing you to focus on something you know well, and can lower your heart rate, keeping you relaxed.

Walk Away, Then Around

We’ve all gotten an email or two that made us want to reply with something sassy or passive aggressive. When something triggers a stressful response quickly, your reaction can also come quickly. In this case, it’s best to just get up and walk away.

It’s not as hard to make the right choice when you know there’s a reward at the end — Go outside and soak up some sun. Take a flight of stairs up. Go talk to someone you know nearby.

Have a couple of extra minutes? Take a few more flights of stairs. Walk farther and faster. Before you know it, you’ve burned off some aggression and your original reaction just seems silly.

Make a List

If you’re feeling overwhelmed with the tasks you need to do, write them down.

Now that you have a visual representation of your list, you can make a plan. When I’m stressed with To Do’s, I always take out the easiest things first. It gives me a feeling of accomplishment and satisfaction quickly and gets me in the zone. Find the plan that works best for you and tackle it. In this case, it’s not worth procrastinating — just do it.

Still stressed? Here’s a bonus tip: Find something to make you laugh! There’s nothing quite like a smile to take your mind off the heavy stuff. Now, keep riding that train — Think happy, positive thoughts.

With just a few simple actions, you can take control of your stress and fix it. All it takes is 3 minutes or less.
