Mother’s Day is right round the corner! The kids and husbands of the world are scrambling to put together a memorable day for all you moms out there (fingers crossed!), so here at Lee we thought we’d chat with one of our own to get some style tips for the special day. Whitney Neary is a member of our design team, working on women’s denim, but more importantly she is a new mom! We asked Whitney to talk about what she would buy with $100 to create her perfect Mother’s Day outfit, and what she’d pair it with from her current wardrobe. So without further ado, here’s what Whitney had to say (we hope you’re taking notes!):
“With a nice slim white jean, you can roll it for an easy transitional look around Mother’s Day. It freshens a look and it’s versatile enough to wear no matter what you’re up to that day.”
What would you buy with $100 to create your perfect Mother’s Day look?
- White Denim – Whitney was quick to stress how important a great pair of white skinnies, straight-leg jeans or capris are to a vibrant spring/summer wardrobe. “With a nice slim white jean, you can roll it for an easy transitional look around Mother’s Day. It freshens a look and it’s versatile enough to wear no matter what you’re up to that day.”
- Denim Jacket – Whitney’s second must-have piece was a classic denim jacket. “It looks amazing with white and it’s timeless. Being a mom now, I think about family photos. I don’t want to look back at these photos later in life and think, ‘Oh, what was I wearing?’”
- Pop Lip Color – “Since neutral tones and basics are trending in women’s clothing this season, I love throwing on a pop of lip color to brighten up a look. It’s just an easy way to liven your wardrobe staples.”
How do your plans inspire your outfit for a day like Mother’s Day?
“I like this look because of its flexibility and versatility. You may not know what is in store for the whole day, so it allows for some spontaneity, which is always fun. I don’t want to worry about what I am wearing when we are out, whether it be brunch with all the moms in my family and then a stroll around [Kansas City’s] Country Club Plaza or baby’s first trip to the zoo. Plus, a lot of times I am carrying the baby, so lightweight clothes are great for keeping cool and comfortable.”
Do you have any favorite pieces you already own that you’d mix in with your look?
“I love my little cross-body bag. It’s great for carrying just your essentials when you are going to be running around. Plus, we are always carrying a diaper bag nowadays! I also have a thing for big sunglasses right now, so I would definitely bring those along. Oh, and for everyone getting jewelry for Mother’s Day (hint, hint) — this is a great look for layering and accessorizing! So don’t be afraid to wear it right then and there.”
