How a Mom of 13 Says a Pair of Jeans “Saved Me From Myself”

We all put our pants on the same way — one leg at a time. We might not even give this action a second thought, as we’re usually in a half-awake state of “I NEED COFFEE.”

But one day, as Bridget M. — a mother of 13 from Stilwell, Kan. — was putting on her Classic Fit Lee jeans, this typically mundane task became an emotional … even life-changing … experience.

Bridget recently gave birth to her 13th child. Bless her.

If you’re a mother, you know that having a child changes your body. This isn’t a bad thing. In fact, it’s a beautiful thing. Sharing your gifts on the journey called parenthood is beautiful.

Although these post-baby body changes aren’t bad, it can take some time to adjust to your transformed figure. Your jeans might not fit the same as they did before, which can knock down your self-esteem.

After 13 children, Bridget was struggling to adjust to her body. “I woke up feeling really disgusting. Ugly. Useless. Unworthy.” Bridget says. “I was comparing myself to every beautiful, skinny woman I’d ever come across. I was very depressed.”

But then, as she began putting on her favorite Lee jeans, she noticed that they had a message for her. On the pocket lining of her Lee jeans, she noticed something she’d never seen before. She took a closer look and was taken aback by their message:

You are beautiful.

This was the message she needed, and tears began streaming down Bridget’s face. She says that message brought her an abundance joy and empowerment, which she desperately needed that morning.

“I strutted out of the bedroom, head held high,” Bridget says. “YES! I am beautiful. Maybe not to the media, but to my family and friends and definitely to my babies.”

Bridget felt compelled to write to us and share this Lee Classic Fit customer story. We’re so glad she did.

“… that message has seared a sense of confidence in me that I hadn’t really had before. That day, the writing in that pocket saved me from myself!”

Our designers choose to put these uplifting words on the pocket lining of our jeans as subtle reminders that you are beautiful. We hope it will help bring a smile to someone’s face as they get ready for their day … but we had no idea how big the impact would be for our new friend, Bridget.

“Not only do your jeans fit me well,” Bridget says, “but that message has seared a sense of confidence in me that I hadn’t really had before. That day, the writing in that pocket saved me from myself! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!”

You’re very welcome, Bridget. You’re the reason we love what we do at Lee. Thank you for sharing your story.

Love the story on Bridget Miller, it is so nice in today’s world to see a company that is dedicated to encouraging women. What woman hasn’t felt this same way after having a baby…maybe a small thing to do but it makes a big impact. Thank you Lee Jeans!

I have a pair of these and have loved them so much that I need to replace them. Where can I find them?

  • Jewel K. Stockton

Bridget, I feel the same way about these jeans. When I have them on, I feel confident and beautiful. May I share this blog with the production team at Lee in an effort to persuade them to put them back into production? And incidentally, YOU ARE GORGEOUS!
