Essential Beauty Tips for Summer

Light, bright and carefree — That’s the name of this summer’s beauty game. Lucky for us, we get to spend a little less time with our morning prep.

Here are a few tips to help you with a smooth transition.

Hair

Great news for those of us with bed head: Beach waves and headbands are in. We love rockin‘ this breezy look with comfortable boyfriend jeans (like the Payton) for a carefree look. To get a beach vibe, spritz a little sea salt spray on dry or wet strands and scrunch. For an easy way to channel the headband look, throw your hair in your go-to bun and tie a thick, printed headband at the base of your neck.
Can you do a simple braid? You just upped your summer hair game. Easy ways to try it:
  • Tie all of your hair back in one long braid and secure with an elastic band, then tug along the braid itself to loosen it up a bit. If you’re feeling bold, add a flower clip to one side near the top.
  • Tie half of your hair back in a braid, securing, loosening and boldly adding a flower clip, if applicable.

It’s as simple as that! If you have expert braiding skills, check out this post for some more complex ideas.

Lips

Swap a subtle, pink-tinted gloss for your heavier lipstick. It’s a fresh, light look that’s great for your on-the-go summer. Pack your gloss in your pocket and reapply throughout the day to give your face a quick pick-me-up. We like these.

Eyes

Love your liner? Try separating from it for a while and stick with a coat of mascara. If you can’t break up with your eyeliner, try seeing it less by lining only the top lids with a thin line or only lining the outer half of your top lids.

Face

With summer, we get hotter, more humid days. That means our skin stays better moisturized, which is great! But a word of caution — Using too much moisturizer or a heavy foundation can result in melty makeup from the heat. Stick with a light, tinted moisturizer for all-day coverage and comfort. We like this one because it contains SPF, so you’ll be protected from the sun. Added bonus: You just eliminated a step of your beauty routine.

Nails

You didn’t think I’d get all the way through this post without talking nail polish, did you? This summer’s colors are no standout from the overall trend — they’re just lighter, brighter versions of your current favorites. A range of pinks, corals, mints and yellows are following suit (and pair perfectly with your brightly-colored shorts!).

These warm-weather beauty trends pair well with the breezier summer styles you’ll surely shift your wardrobe to, as well.
