Blogger Spotlight: Sally McGraw

Already Pretty, a style and lifestyle blog penned by Lee-friend and Minneapolis blogger Sally McGraw, is one of our favorite sources for all things trending, flattering and comfortable. But more importantly, Sally’s writing stands for body-confidence and female-love that are sometimes missed in other fashion sources. Sally continues to present a wonderful Midwestern style with extreme poise and assurance that makes any reader want to knock on her front door for a personal styling session (or even a hug).

Sally recently hosted a Style Party in Minneapolis on behalf of Lee, featuring Lee’s latest lines of Curvy Fit and Easy Fit products. She invited her style-conscious friends from the area, and even a few reader winners for a one-on-one meet and greet. In addition to writing Already Pretty, she is an ongoing contributor to the Minneapolis Star Tribune and The Huffington Post and has been covered by Lucky, Glamour, Redbook, More and MTV Voices. We recently asked Sally a few questions to learn what inspires her to do what she does (and does so well).

What is your favorite part of being a stylist and blogger?

Helping women understand their bodies, build confidence and acknowledge their unique beauty! I believe that body knowledge gained through explorations of personal style can foster self-love and self-respect. Although I adore style and fashion, I honestly don’t care what anyone wears, ever. I just want women to feel fabulous about how they look so they can stop worrying and get on with the work of their lives.

What blogs do you find inspiration from?

So many! I always learn something by reading You Look Fab and Inside Out Style. Kellie from And I Get Dressed wows me with every single outfit and Lisa from Respect the Shoes is a layering and accessorization wizard. I’ve also been fascinated by Grechen’s minimalist journey over on Grechen’s Closet.

What is your favorite trend this fall? Coming up this spring?

For Fall: Leather. I think I currently have four pairs of leather/pleather pants in rotation, and more leather jackets than I care to admit.

For Spring: Slouchy pants. I still love my skinnies to death, but also enjoy mixing it up. Boyfriends and slouchy pants are a comfy, fun alternative.

What inspired you to get involved in the fashion industry?

I wanted to show women that if they changed how they dressed, they could change how they felt about their bodies … without diets or Botox or liposuction. Fashion and style can feel oppressive and constricting, but when you set your own priorities and understand your dressing goals, they can be valuable tools, too.

What has been your favorite project in your career thus far?

I write a monthly Q&A column for the Minneapolis Star Tribune, and it’s a blast. I get such great, varied and fascinating questions and love being able to answer them with kindness and humor.

Have any tips for busy women wanting to stay stylish on the go?

Create some outfit formulas for yourself and vary your accessories. If a cardigan, printed top and pants is your go-to grouping, be sure to add a scarf some days, a necklace other days, bright shoes other days.

P.S., Sally –

Thank you for your dedicated friendship with Lee and continued mission to help women love their bodies and dress them well. You are an inspiration — and just plain fun to be around! We are so honored you hosted this fall’s Lee Style Party and that you have included us in your blogging journey.
